"More Monster History"

The following from various articles

from the Dowagiac Daily News dated Summer and Fall 1964:

According to Robert Walker, of Dowagiac, found what he believed to be a monster track. "Walker stated that 'he didn't know what kind of track it is, could be a big ape track'. Walker also stated that he had seen the thing last summer, but like the other witnesses to the monster, was hesitant to say so."

"Walker, who was tagged 'official monster hunter' by his neighbors, gave the Daily News the route the monster takes during his evening tours. 'He starts around Utrup's cherry orchard somewhere (Garrett Road), walks all the way down to Dale Swisher's woods on Swisher Street, then goes down the hedgerows. He goes down behind Cullinane school (on Dixon Road) where there's a swamp and blueberries'."

"Sheriff's deputy Dick Baker said that there haven't been any signs of bear.

'He hasn't bothered any of the dumps around the area'."

One monster sighting ..." was Thursday morning when threee young girls reported seeing the monster leave the woods, and cross the road in front of them, running on its hind legs.

Two of the girls, Patsy and Gail Clayton were walking the third girl, Joyce Smith, home when they saw what they decribed as a bear. The smith girl reportedly fainted. Sheriff's department authorities have at times been skeptical of the girls' stories."

"The Sister Lakes Monster was sighted in Van Buren County about 3 miles from where originally spotted last month. Described as a 'creature taller than a bear and with red hands', it was seen early Monday evening by a man and his wife driving on a little-used road in a wooded area."

"The couple who stopped at the home of a friend at Sister Lakes to report the incident, say 'they sat in their car and watched the animal for several minutes. They said it was definitely an animal and not a man. It was covered with reddish brown hair. Because of the heavy underbrush it was difficult to see. It made no attempt to come toward their car, but seemed to be watching them , retreating behind a tree trunk.

As they sat there watching it, it finally climbed the tree- then sat there and 'clapped its hands' several times."

"GRAND RAPIDS (AP) -Sister Lakes of Cass County may have lost its 'monster' to more northerly climes, if a report made here today by two brothers from Clare checks out. Wayne Ritter, 19, and his brother, Lloyd, 17 told Kent County sheriff's deputies of sighting a hairy, gorilla-like creature about 10 feet tall, walking with a shuffling gait as it crossed I-96 near the Saranac interchange in Ionia County. The brothers said they were driving from Lansing to Grand Haven to seek work when they made their sighting about 4 am."
